Providing an IB education for all
IB at GRC | Middle Years Program | Diploma Program | Career-Related Program
During the ninth and tenth grade years, GRC students are part of the IB Middle Years Program. This program is specifically for students who are in the sixth through tenth grades. The MYP curriculum addresses students' intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being, enables them to understand and manage the complexities of our world, and also provides students with the skills and attitudes they need in order to take responsible action for the future (International Baccalaureate Organization website). These courses will ultimately prepare our students for the challenges of the Diploma and the Career-related Programs.
MYP Course Selection
Students have a variety of choices from which to choose in the eight MYP areas of study. Two classes in particular, Design Technology and Digital Photography, are courses that are only offered at Green Run Collegiate.

Service and action
MYP students must complete a series of activities outside of school that help students "develop their personal understanding, their emerging sense of self, and their developmentally appropriate responsibility in their community" (MYP: From principals into practice). These activities can focus on the areas of creativity, activity (physical exertion) and service. MYP students are to participate and then to reflect on their experiences based on the following learning outcomes:
- Become more aware of their own strengths and areas for growth
- Undertake challenges that develop new skills
- Discuss, evaluate and plan student-initiated activities
- Persevere in action
- Work collaboratively with others
- Develop international-mindedness through global engagement multilingualism and intercultural understanding
- Consider the ethical implications of their actions.
For IB, quality is more valued than the number of hours one collects. Students are to record, document and to reflect on their experiences through their ManageBac account. In addition, students must have their supervisors sign their SA completion form in order to verify their involvement with the activity. All of these forms can be found on the website, which is located on https://greenruncollegiate.managebac.com.
Personal Project
What is the MYP Personal Project?
The Personal Project is the culminating task that should encapsulate your IB Middle Years Program experience. Through the course of several months, students will pursue an area of deep personal interest that will allow them to learn through experience. This project will allow them to embrace and apply the IB Learner profile traits while preparing them for the IB Diploma and Career-related Programs in their junior and senior years.
What are the Aims?
- Self-directed inquiry within an IB MYP global context
- Managing a self-directed long-term project
- Effectively communicating a process as well as an outcome
When will the work occur?
Though research and brainstorming can occur over the summer, most of the work will occur throughout the sophomore year. A tentative timeline is as follows:
